I got them off. If it can help anyone I found out that they are screwed on. They are installed with red locktite. I made a split ring with set screws so that I could clamp it on the rubber and the set screws help the ring from slipping on the rubber switch handle. The other grip that didnt have a switch in it had about a 1/2" of steel to grip with a pipe wrench. They were both somewhat rusted in place and quit hard to get loose without damaging the grips. So now I can slip the dust boots on without tearing the rubber.
