Hello all , I topped off the coolant on this machine in the fall before snow season and have not really paid much attention to it since. The other day I shut machine off and didnt have my head set on and heard some gurgling so I opened up door and the over flow bottle was bubbling coolant out the cap. The coolant is clean / oil is full and doesn't have af in it.... so I dont think I lost a head gasket.... there are no temp lights on when running it..... I do get a slight belt squeal when I first start - belt is tight and it goes away after a min. So...... could I have a water pump going bad ? Thermostat ?

The machine only has idiot light and not a gauge so I can't tell if it's running hot or not....... Thoughts ???

Sounds like exhaust fumes entering coolant. You can get a test kit from an auto store to check for exhaust fumes in the coolant.

Mist likely a failed head gasket or a cracked head.

I agree ,do not play around with this and put it off, it will cost more . I do not know the engine in that skid steer I would do a net seach and see if that engine is prone to haed gasket failure or head cracks.

Head gasket issues are not common in these engines...... I do get a belt squeal when it cold but goes away after a bit - belt is tight. Im going to pull belt and spin water pump to see if I can feel anything.

just as a fyi I had a belt squeal it was the alternator belt , the starter motor was dragging pulling a lot of amps and to bring the battery back up it was putting a heavy load on the alternator making the belt squeal until done with the recharge. scratched my head on that for awhile cause I did not know starter was bad thought battery was weak.

Sounds like a coolant boiling issue. Either the cooling system can’t keep up with the heat, or there’s a fault in the system itself. Anyway, you'd check it right now. Here's what I found about why your coolant is boiling and how you can deal with it. Hope it might help.
