I have a 2017 cat 259D. I am brand new to the skid steer world, O had a warning going off... Checked the system out and I felt that one coolant line was hot and the other one was cool to the touch... pulled thermostat.. tested would not open at 200°. Replaced thermostat.. I feel I still have the same issue but it seems like the hose That was cold before is warm at best but cool at the very top. How do I check to see if my water pump is working? Is there a way ? Thanks

The water pump is belt driven, make sure the belt has good tension with no squeaks on any pulley

There is a weap hole on the bottom of the pump, if you have coolant coming out of the hole the pump is no good

Another thing is remove the radiator cap and run the engine to see if you see it circulating inside

When I change thermostats I test them in a pot of boiling water and using a thermal temperature gun

I'm curious to know what codes did you get and what symptoms are you experiencing with the machine ?

I have some experience with a dozer And an old excavator that we had but this machine is more technically advanced, just picked it up a week ago knowing NOTHING about the machine except it had a bad starter, got it running by tapping a starter? (Been parked inside building for 5 years) Loaded it on the trailer and brought it home.. changed out starter, starts instantly but starts beeping when warming up and beeps get faster and faster, I started investigating and realized one side of thermostat was hot, and the other side was cold, I pulled thermostat and tested it in a pot of water and it would not open.... put a new one in today and did the same thing. But I noticed one side of the thermostat is hot, and the other side of the thermostat is warm.. I will check to see if the system needs to be burped and go from there. It's a 2017, 2000 hrs... is there any way to pull codes Like you can with a car with obd? Or do you need a big$$ scan tool?

You can see the codes (DTC) using the display screen
