Hi thre! I have a 257B with 900 hours. Had it for a few month now and it works very well howver I noticed that the exhaust manifold and turbo on the little perkins engine are very rusty. I had it serviced recently and the cat guy told me "they are all like that" I worked many years on large diesel generators and I must disagree, not all perkins look like that. I thought in applying a rust removal product and paint it...ever tried this?

Personally I'd give it a GOOD clean, ideally sandblast, but thats not really an option when its in place then use high temp paint. Warm it up slowly if you can, like don't paint it, then let it dry for a day or 2 then start it and flog the nads out of the engine and burn the paint off. I know the turbo gets hot, but try not running it too long for a little while if you can. Get the paint hot, but not super hot in one hit.
Thats what we always did with our fire boxes in the house after painting. Warm it slowly to allow it to cure better.
