I recently purchased a new 232D and 242D after owning other Cat skid steer models like the 216B. I have operated almost every brand of skid steer for over 25 years and am wondering if any other operators have the same opinion of these models as myself. These machines are extremely light in the front end. When loading over a truck as soon as you empty the bucket the weight transfer seems to put all of the weight on the rear axle making the machine want to roll back on itself. When trying to pull material back away from a form board there is no down pressure to scrape material back, and the only way to cut any grade is with a full bucket for down pressure. The other skid steers I own can all be loaded facing forward on our tag trailers where this Cat is so light on the front axle you have to back up the trailer and then spin around on the trailer to load facing forward. I am concerned with putting operators in this unit that may have less seat time and not being able to correct for the characteristics of this machine and putting it on it's lid. My salesman says that this is a common issue with the new vertical lift path machines and I should consider using old cutting edges to make a weight kit to mount on the front of the machine between the bucket and cab. I just don't feel like we should have to put a Band Aid fix on a brand new machine that should do everything my Bobcat vertical lift machine does without this issue. My mistake was ordering these machines without a demo first but I have always been impressed by my other Cat products so I assumed these would be fine also. Thanks for your time, just looking for some other opinions on this from someone else who has operated this model.
