Hi there, I'm a total newbie here and to skid steers, so here goes. I have a Case 1840 with about 3300 hours on it, I was driving it today (on a hill) and it just quit, fuel was low so I topped it up. The battery and beeb causing me trouble over the winter so I replaced that too. Now it turns turns over just fine and I can only drive it when the key is turned on, meaning turning it over. I literally had my wife in the skid steer with me holding the key soI could drive it back to the garage. The oil light does stay on as does the alternator light. As I'm new, I think the alternator belt is (below the rad??) and it may be a tad loose, no idea how to tighten it. Anyhow I was thinking there's some sort of automatic shut off for low oil, but that appears to full and clean. Any ideas? Your help is appreciated whoever you are. cheers, Greg

If the oil light is staying on it could be your oil pressure sending unit is bad or you have a problem. You mention your oil is full so I'd start with the least expensive and check the oil pressure sending unit. I don't know why it would just drop out like that. It has been too long since I worked on the 1840 so I'm not going to be much help. I would suggest going over to the Case discussion forum and posting your question there. Sorry I can't be more help.
