Hi I bought a 2000 1840 skidsteer it's not charging so I took the alternator to get tested that came back good, my issue now is I'm not getting power to the yellow exciter wire,I tracked it back to the relay, there no breaks in the yellow wire I'm gettig 6.8 volts to the #87 post on the relay just nothing to the yellow, any help would be appreciated Thanks

That voltage is too low to me, did you trace it back to a fuse? i'd assume this line would be fused, hopefully it's that easy.

All the fuses look good, I did hear some systems use 6 volts to excite the alternator not 100 percent sure on this one, there's 3 relays In a row and 2 of them are getting 13 volts so it's like something is built in one of them to lower the voltage possibly.

I'd doubt that something is built in to lower the voltage too, some systems may indeed tun at lower voltages, mainly coils, but not the alternator i'd think.

sounds like a weak/corroded connection somewhere......normally exciter is 12v
