Greetings All I have a Case 1830 that I bought new during the Great Blizzard of '79. At 1100 hours and over 40 years it has been amazingly reliable. Last week I was moving compost with it when it felt like one of the chains on the left side briefly skipped a tooth or or was binding. Turns out the chains needed adjustment. But the problem is when checking the chains I found I could move the center cluster sprocket laterally about 3/8" - 1/2". Checked the right side and that sprocket has no play. Pulled the shaft inspection cover and the bearing appears to be properly adjusted. What would cause the sprocket to have lateral play? Since the Case is not often used and only for light work, can I get by with just a chain adjustment? Thanks for any advice.
