new to site and look forward to info on my Case 1816 as it is also new to me . Can anyone advise me how to check oil quantity and quality in drive chain cases . Oil specification , grade , where is drain and fill plugs located and is there advantage to synthetic here as I live in Ontario . Is there a service manual that is worth buying that will also give all oil spec's and quantities that are up to date and not oil spec's back in 1970 and 80's . I appreciate any information as this equipment all new to me . Thanks Spinner [email protected]

I will assume it is the same as the 70's 1816 that I had..The chain drives are not sealed; take the foot rests off and you can access the chains for cleaning/lubbing..I used chain and cable lube in a spray can..If you have a later model that has sealed chain drives then the drain is at the rear on each side..Takes 3 qts 10-30 engine oil..Should be a bunch of manuals online, all are pretty close..

Thanks pogo for your reply , I have owned and serviced different tractors but this thing is a different animal to me . I have no literature on the unit and the guy that sold it to me was of mo help at all as I asked all sorts of questions and he said u will figure it out , would not even show me how to start and operate to get it loaded on my trailer . Could be I made a mistake by purchasing this in first place , did not require a large machine and looks to be in good condition . He re powered with Briggs Vanguard 20 HP about 8 years ago , seems to run good but hard to start as I have to use spray of either into air cleaner while cranking , I will install new plugs to see if that helps or maybe there is a way this thing starts or not like less choke not sure yet as just got it . My concerns as in my last thread are making sure chains are adjusted properly and lubed , I did take the slim foot panel at front off and then one behind it held by 2 bolts but that just exposed enclosed battery box and nothing else as it was all boxed in u could not see to sides where chains should be located . I do believe the machine to be a late 70 's or very early 80 's , have not found serial # , it is just 1816 no A B or C's behind 1816 . I do appreciate any help at all as I'm in the sticks here so to speak going on 70 years age and no other help at all . Thanks Doug

Well I have just started my 70th year too; ain't aches and pains great? Lol..1816 series is miserable to work on but great once all the bugs are out..I got 27 years out of the one I had..For the amount of money I have spent to get the 1818 I have now and tune it up I could have sent the 1816 out for pump repair, found out not to expensive a fix but had to take it so far apart to get at the problem I gave up cause I knew my back wouldn't take it....Coleman's is pretty good place..https://www.colemanequip.com/parts/model/Case-1816-Uniloaders-Skid-Steer-Loaders-Parts/ Have fun, Seb..
