I have an 1816 that doesn’t want to run. I can get it to start and it will run for a minute or two then it dies and the carb floods. I think it may be the float but I am by no means a small engine guy. It has the Onan engine any help would be appreciated. I will probably have to take it to be repaired but I would like to figure out what it could be just in case (pun intended) it’s something thing simple.

If it's flooding, i agree that it sounds like the float is stuck or has something stuck in the seat.
I have never pulled a carb off one of those engines, but i'd like to think it would be fairly easy to do. Carb out, bowl off and remove the float and seat to ensure it's clean. Re-install and hopefully you are good to go.
