Case 1737 Push Button Start Queston

Hello first time posting but a long time lurker, I want to say Thank you in advance for any help on this topic! The person who I bought this skid steer from to start the machine took the wire right from the starter and left it unhooked from the Solenoid and to start the machine would just kind of Hot wire it by touching the wire from the starter right to the solenoid. I wanted to wire up a new push button start so I bought a push button start button wired one end right into the starter and the other end of the button right to the 12v Positive side on the battery. When I push the button the starter turns super slow not enough to spin the engine more then once. The instant I go back to the "hot Wire Method" of just touching it it fires right up without a problem I'm scratching my head on why this is any help would be awesome thanks !

The starter should get the juice to spin it from the main battery lugs on the solenoid; the only thing that I can think of is that you have way too small gauge wire going to the push button switch, or the switch itself is under capacity. Since a direct jumper spins it right over, I'd up the amperage rating on your circuit so it pulls the solenoid harder. It may not be getting enough amperage to make good internal contact.

That indeed is weird, touching those wires together should engage the solenoid to send power to the motor after engaging the bendix gear, so it should get full amps from the big wire to the +ve battery terminal. The solenoid on top of the starter pushes the bendix forward into the fly wheel, it also acts as a relay to direct power from the battery to the actual motor to spin it.
Another alternative is to wire up a relay at the starter so you can use light gauge wire from the dash to start it. Light gauge at the dash to the relay, heavier from the relay to the starter motor, you'll get less current drop that way too.
