I recently posted on this site, about using a Carrier Reefer motor, in a 743 Bobcat. The motor is a 2203 D.I. motor, replacing the 1703 I.D.I. motor. Have it in, after a bunch of modifications, and it runs just fine. Even have the manifold heater working on it.
A strange thing happened afterwards, while I was making sure things were working right. The oil filter blew apart. Glad a friend was watching, to warn me to shut it off. Removed the damaged filter, and installed a new one, and right after, it blew that filter apart. I did some checking, and was told the oil pressure relief valve failed. So I've ordered parts to repair.
My question is, if anyone has messed with a reefer motor, can a person remove the oil filter adaptor off the front of the timing cover, plug the oil holes, then relocate the oil filter in the original spot on the side of the block. There is a cover over it now. The adaptor on the timing cover, repositions the oil filter in a way that makes the filter butt to butt, with the starter motor. Replacing the oil filter in its original location, is a bit easier than the way it is now.
If anyone has done this motor swap, and has removed the oil filter adaptor, and blocked it off, on the timing cover, I'd sure like to hear it can be done, and how you did it.
I'm sure it can be blocked off, but don't want to starve the engine of oil, if I do it.
Input from one of you out there, would be greatly appreciated.
