I recently purchased a 2004 S150 Bobcat skidsteer , and while running it the other day i started loosing power and when i cut the throtle back to under 50% the engine would die, but would not start unless i gave it over 50% throtle. The next day i went back to run it and it would not start so i had a mechanic come out today and he found the fuel soliniod to be the problem. We got it restarted again with the original solinoid. But my problem is the mechanic fells it will come back being it was working the day before but only opening half way. Does any one have any sugestions

Check your filters and pickup tube too, that could be a restriction too.
Its possible you have oil or junk stuck in the solenoid, even a failing coil or relay could be the problem.

Thanks for the response. We removed the solenoid and could not find any noticeable problem and reinstalled it and it's working good for now . Checked fuel by removing the primer bulb and it appears to have plenty of flow.

Im having the solinoid problem but not every day and it was recomended that it might be the relay or failing coil. I do know that when it wont start that i have someone else crank on it but i dont smell any fuel from the exhaust. I know i fuel from the tank because ive removed the pick up line and have fuel. Any sugestions would help and i dont know of the relay or location for the solinoid

We have a S130, with a similar problem. We opened the top (by breaking it) and found a metal beam contact what was bended and therefor not making contact anymore.

i think i was wrong yesterday, and found another answer somewhere else: This might be a stab in the dark, but it sounds like your fuel (kill) solenoid isn't pulling all the way in when the engine starts. I have a Kubota V1505 engine on my generator. The fuel solenoid has two separate 12 volt coils. One is a "pull in" coil and the other is a "holding" coil. Both coils energize when the engine starts and then the pull in coil drops out. That coil is wired to the starter motor and is only energized when the starter is energized. The holding coil holds the fuel rack in the open position until it is de-energized. On my solenoid, there are only two wires. Each one is a DC+ and the other side each coil is grounded internally to the solenoid case. If your solenoid has two coils, it sounds like the pull in coil may be open, not connected or has a bad connection and not receiving a full 12 volts. The holding coil doesn't have enough power to pull the fuel rack to the open position by itself. makes clear how it works. we made a wire from the starter to the "pull in" coil, because our pull in didn't got power anymore. helps?

Thanks for the reply about the solinoid problems but i have found the problem and it was a voltage problem but i was thrown off by the fact that the starter would turn over the engine but i called a local bobcat parts dept. and was chacking on getting a new solinoid and they suggested it might be from a bad battery and i connected the problems to not starting to when it would start was because i was jump starting it from my truck from running the battery down. Installed new heavy duty battery and all is working perfect , so lesson learned that even though the sarter would turn over the engine it was not enough to run the solinoid and the glow plugs.
