Increasing the fuel flow can make a tremendous difference in the power output. Thou at some point engine life can be greatly reduced. (especially if pistons get too hot) A friend of mine run 5 740 JD skidders that were always underpowered with the 170 (my est) hp. They were running 6 hours long on a 200 litre (50 gal) tank. Being the warranty was long go the dealer turned them up to the point where they only an 5.25 to 5.5 hours on the same tank. After that I'd estimate them to have 225 hp as we had simular size machines with 225 and 250 hp engines and the 740 were right there. The one machine burned it fuel in about 5 hours and could be spotted easily by the dark black smoke that rolled out of it. It had in excess of 250 hp as it would climb hills in 8th gear on the road at speed our 250 hp machine would not think of. He later had that one turned back down, I am surprised it didn't burn a piston but it never seemed to hurt it.
