So I finally got my 643 to start WOO! I hit the starter it turned over a little and began spinning faster and faster and finally started running but it runs wide open throttle. The throttle lever was in the slow position and i moved it back and forth and it had no effect. The linkage is all there and it moves positions. I didn't let it run for very long so maybe it will just idle itself down? Its got 3 gallons of low sulfur highway diesel it that makes any difference. The second problem is when I turn the ignition switch off it doesn't shut the motor off. I had to shut the fuel valve off under the tank and let it run its self out of fuel. Help!! Thank you!

Is there a pull cable on the right side of the seat? Check the engine, just below the pump, there should be a cable attached to the fuel shut off lever. Is it a cable or solenoid?
As for running like that, it sounds like something is wrong with the govenor. When not in a machine, so no load, it will start up and rev then drop back quickly. Yours sounds like either something is stuck, a spring is too tight or someone had the injector pump out and didn't put it back in just right. There is a cradle i think it's called that the injector rack pin must engage, if it's not in there, the engine will run flat out and the stop lever will not shut it down. This sounds almost like what the problem is that you are experiencing.

Okay I see the cable I thought it was a choke until just now I saw "STOP" right next to it. So when it is pulled up the engine should shut off? or vica versa. And I did pull the injector pump out awhile ago when I was troubleshooting why it wouldn't run. So I must not have put it back in correctly. So how does this pin suppose to engage? I think I remember seeing it when I pulled the pump out. I agree that that is the problem I'm experiencing cause the push/pull cable did nothing to kill the motor. In fact it was pulled up when I started it cause I thought it was some sort of a choke. Thanks Tazza! Also does anyone know where I can download a PDF for either the 643 or the Kubota D1402? I can't fine one for free anywhere.

I GOT IT FIXED! woot haha its a beautiful thing to finally hear it run like it should. I got it as a basket case for 1500 bucks! Last thing fellas. This tractor doesn't have a water temp gauge so I'm gonna go out and get one to wire up What do these things run at operating temp? 160? 180? Thanks guys

Excellent, i think you did pretty well getting it for 1500.
I believe they are 180F, a sender and gauge from the dealer aren't that badly priced.
