My father-in-laws 371 does not like starting in this cold weather. I have to crank and crank on it, and it usually starts after about 5-10 minutes of cranking, with some poppin off a couple times. It is almost like it loses it's prime, and can't get gas sucked back up to the carb, but yet it smells like there is gas up there. Tried some starting fluid and it runs long enough to burn that up then dies. Could it really take that much to get gas pulled up to the carb?? Any suggestions or help would be great.

If you have a spot for it cut the gas line and put a primer bulb in like a outboard motor primer. Then before you start it squeeze it till it firms up and then the carb should have gas. I did that on my 610 and it made a world of difference in starting.

I was 2 minutes late on that.
