Hi I was wondering if you guys could help me I'm looking at a used Bobcat auger attchment and I really don't know what to look for interms of how hard it was used and what could possibly be wrong. The guy who is selling it doesn't have the machine anymore so I can see it running but that could just be as excuse I don't know. I assume its all gear drive whats the chances of a gear being messed up and what kind of money do you think I would be looking at to fix it if something like that was wrong? Thanks for the info P.S. If anyone knows any little tricks or things to wiggle on this attachment to figure out what the overall shape of it is I would love to hear them. Thanks again

What model # is it?
Is it the older square box drive with the double reduction roller chain system or is it one of the new planetary drives that will follow a 12" bit down the hole for extra drilling depth?

The only number I see on it is on the side and its the number 15. And I'm going to have to say its the new planetary drive that can fit down a 12" hole. This also comes with a 24" bit. What is something like this worth? It's not brand new there are scrapes and rust on it but nothing to serious. Thanks
Going from memory here, but a new #15 is around $2000, and a 24" bit would be $600+. I'd take your machine and hook it up and run it--then you will know.

That is model I have and it has served me ok other then the output shaft broke off just above the bit. Fortunately it was still on warranty at the time and I have had no such problems since. (though I'm very carefule about putting the 18" bit with a 3ft extension out in from of the loader and lowering the arms.) There are signs of oil weeping round the shaft now , but its 7 year old, its collecting dirt, not washing it away.
I too would hook it to a loader and drill a hole or two at low rpm to make sure the motor is sound, nothing is bent and leaking.
