Knocking, temperature gauge spike and external oil pump gasket leak is visible. 20 hours after timing belt, filters, fuel system PM from Authorized Bobcat Dealer. My brother in law and I have talked to about 40 people and none of the engineers and farmers we know in the USA and EU ever having heard of a Deutz having major engine failure less than 3000 hours. I am an auto industry engineer and have worked with GM and Ford problem solving processes for 24 years. Any brainstorming ideas on potential root causes would be great. I have heard the following possibilities: - dipstick plastic fractures and seizes up the oil pump - timing belt tension snaps oil pump shaft -technician introduced foreign material into system

What does the dealer how did the work say? Do you have no pressure or low pressure? Verified with a mechanical test gauge?

Timing belt is totally external. Dipstick fins breaking off, know problem, never wrecked an engine thou. Fuel transfer pumps can leak fuel into crankcase. I suppose you delute the oil enough you could cause bottom end failure. Engines fail, don't blame the guy working on it. If he f'ed something up, it wouldn't have ran an hour.

Why was the timing belt changed at 900 hr? The spec is 3000 hr. The dipstick fins get stuck in the thermostat which can cause overheating. Never heard of the pieces hurting thr oil pump. When adjusting the timing belt, there is a tension gauge to check belt tension. This is the number one measurement when installing the belt.

There is zero oil pressure. Dealer says I am unlucky and things just happen with heavy equipment. I proactively replaced the timing belt because it was the original from 1997. If they did not use the tension gauge could it have caused problems?

There are three oil pressure control vavles that can be accessed externally. If any one is stuck open, it will cause low oil pressure. Most likely a piece of the dipstick rib stuck in it. Next, try changing the oil pump, those do leak externally. Unless you have metal in the oil, the bottom end is probable ok.
