Surfing this site and a couple of others looking for a few answers, and I found many here...decided to join! My 743 quit last week while I was clearing snow in sub zero temps. To make a long story as short as possible, I had a nearly full tank of fuel, and it acted like it was out and died 10 feet from my nice warm shop. I suspected the fuel pump since the line out of it was empty, so I hooked up a Facet 12V electric pump to a can and got it inside....(whew!). I didn't have a kit for the pump, so I devoted the rest of the afternoon to forum surfing the symptoms and after some reading, it appeared that it was more likely the pickup tube in the tank. I figured all the lines are 30 years old, so while I'm at it, I might as well replace them all along with the primer bulb which was hard as a rock. Fortunately in a 743 the tank is right behind the seat instead of in the belly of the machine so I started there. Siphoned the fuel out, pulled the tank, and guess what....pickup tube was in 6 or 7 pieces in the bottom of the tank along with what was left of the strainer. Fished all that stuff out and proceeded to make up a new one. I picked up 20' of regular fuel line to do all of the soft hoses, and some 5/16 rigid nylon line to make the pickup tube. New primer bulb and fuel filter from NAPA, and the strainer with check ball from the local Polaris snowmobile dealer. The nylon line is slick to work with, and I had the new pickup all made up in 10 minutes. 2 hours later, the machine was all back together and running perfectly again. Thanks for the tips you all post here, It saved me a bunch of head scratching and countless hours. B
