Hey. New to this forum so hello to anyone that wants to try and help me with this skid steer I just bought. A little background, bought it about 3 weeks ago. Got it running, played around with it a while and it seemed like it may be ok. I had an external leak on the tilt cylinder so I took it off and rebuilt it with a cyl rebuild kit. Cured the leak. Did more repairs and was dumping some dirt in the driveway. The bucket would always very slowly drop(tilt cylinder) but all of a sudden it drops fast. Very inconvenient. I ordered a hyd control valve rebuild kit. Kit included all sorts of packings etc, which is what I figured went out since the drop change was so abrupt. Removed the motor, all the hyd lines, and control valve and tore it apart. Cleaned it up and half of the packings in the kit were not in the hyd control valve. Cross referenced the parts diagram and the packings were not in the diagram either(assuming it fits different valves hence the extra packings) cleaned the 35 year old dirt and grime out of the skid steer and put it back together. Bucket still tilts fast. anyone been around these things that may have an idea where to focus on next? It appeared from the tech manual that those are basically the only 2 components in the tilt system. Any help is appreciated.

I have a 742- if I had that trouble, I would probably take a look at the tilt cylinder again.

Thanks. Ill check it out and see if I can find something that went wrong.
i have rebuilt 5 742/743 valves. The spools have a front and a rear seal only. Nothing else. You wind up with a bunch of spares with the generic kits. But that is also easiest way to get stuff like main pressure relief valve seals. Betting you have a wonk in the tilt tube making the piston run out of true and oil is leaking by

I found that out after I got the valve out and apart. Its too bad all those extra parts were in the bobcat kit 225.00(for now anyway, unless I need them later) Could have probably saved some money just ordering the seals i needed had I known. Also when I tore it apart I had a BIG hunch the problem wasnt there. It was a lot of work but at least there isnt hundreds of pounds of dirt/oil in the bottom of it. And its clean! Hydraulics sound different and can only imagine it will run cooler without being buried anymore. Im going to save the extra seals and if another problem ever comes up mayby I'll have what i need. I just ordered a new cylinder. When i rebuilt the original, everything went well but something must be amiss. Thanks for the help. Will try to reply back results when the cylinder comes in.
