Lately I have been noticing that when I am on asphalt especially with a load the machine just wines like a banshee when trying to turn. It is not so bad when on dirt but still wines more than I think it should. Do you think it is time for drive motor rebuilds or what??? I do not have any idea how much it is to have them rebuilt. Then I was wondering if it was astronomical it might be better to trade the machine in on another one. The Ford motor runs like a champ, and it lifts just fine with all of the functions. It is just those drive motors that worry me. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Steve

The whine is more likely coming from the pumps than the motors.
The first thing that I would check are the charge line filters to the pumps - they could be getting blocked.
If you tilt the cab and look for an aluminum block with a quantity of hoses running to/from it, that is where you will find the filters.
Try searching for more posts on this subject, you may find some more detail on this.
Hope this helps - SR

Did the search and what I am seeing is a general consensus about the bronze filter being possibly clogged. Do you have to have a special tool to remove the filter? Are there any precautionary measures I need to be aware of when attempting this? Like high pressure, etc. I know to keep things as clean as possible. I am not getting any younger and you have to be a contortionists to work on these machines. Thanks much for all you input Steve

I was able to get to the bronze filter, but it would not come out. I could see the cone shape filter but it would not budge. Any trick to getting it out? Steve

I have not heard of anyone having issues getting them out. I personally have not worked on them myself.
It could be that they are fouled with debris. Can you gently pry or work them loose?
Cheers - SR

A service guy from a local bobcat dealer told me he thinks there is an O-ring in there that might be holding it in, and making it difficult to come out. I did not want to wreck the filter screen, so I was trying to be careful, but to no avail.... Steve

What I did was to spray some wd40 specialist penetrating oil on the filter to see if I could clean it while it was still in, then blew out the area with air. I put it back together and ran it some today and I must have cleaned it up some as it was not wining too bad at all. I made some progress with it. So now I need to take it apart once more and try to get that filter out, and either clean it really good or get a new one. Guys any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I tried to pry the old one some with a screwdriver, but had no luck getting it to budge. Surely someone has run into this issue. I was trying to work with that block with the hoses while it was in place. The hose that you take off is in the middle on the side where you can't see what you are doing. Kind of working blind. I held a mirror up and I could see the filter, but ya just can't see it and work on it at the same time. Does that distribution block come off so you could turn the thing sideways so you can see what you are doing or is it more trouble to remove it? Steve

Got digging around and found this:

Looks like the block should come off. If you can't get the filters out, maybe try back flushing it with brake cleaner.

Anyone ever take the port block off? I figured if I could get it off I could see what I was doing with removing the bronze filter. On another note when taking that center line off that has the filter behind it, how can you stop the oil from flowing out and dumping gallons of oil on the ground? Any suggestions. I thought if I had a male plug I could plug it but I do not know what size to ask for. Steve

It does come off, but i'd avoid if if possible. To prevent oil going everywhere, you eed to drain the reserve tank first.

Well I decided to try to get that bronze filter out one more time yesterday. Took the center line off of the port block and removed the large nut with the spring behind it and the filter came out with the spring with no problems. Go figure.....It must have been stuck to the back of the port block with that rubber seal. The WD-40 penetrating oil I sprayed up in there the other day must have worked it's magic. Thanks to all that have replied with suggestions. Steve
