Not sure what happens if the pistons (with new rings) are installed on a potential "incorrect" cross hatch - will that cause the combustion to not work correctly? Or would the head gasket blow again due to incorrect cross hatching?Since I was finding no shop willing to inspect soon - I did buy these two items (pics below) to try and measure the flatness of the mating surfaces - so far, my novice method of measuring indicates the surfaces are quite strait (fingers crossed). I will be attempting today to get the block in my van today, that along with the pistons, I plan to drive to a local machine mechanic who had told me on the phone that he will spend a couple of minutes to look at and provide his opinion.</blockquote>
