I found the following in the Other Brands: General Forum: "This engine has the flywheel alternator, so there are magnets on the inside of the flywheel. Each magnet has a thin, sheet-metal cover. One of those covers had come loose. Most of the time it wasn't causing any problem, but sometimes it would bounce around and get wedged between the flywheel and the stator/alternator. I removed the cover and put it back together"

I seem to be having a similar issue - my flywheel is jammed up. Sometimes I can turn it backwards a bit by hand and get it moving again, but not long enough to get it started. If pieces are coming loose, that's probably a good thing. Looking at the rear cover, can you actually get it off without pulling the engine? It looks like all sorts of things are attached to it. If I have to pull the engine, so be it. But if it isn't necessary, it would save a lot of time.
