I have an old 630 skidsteer, I've had it for quite some time but rarely use it. It got ran low on hydraulic oil, and the hydraulic the drive started whining and as it gets warmer it strains very hard to move. Feels like the left side has the brakes on. Clearly I've not done a good job at maintaining this thing because I had no idea it had a chain case that needed lubricant. I just opened that up and the sprockets actually look really good despite my neglect. The drive is a Char Lynn 109 1052 006. I'd appreciate it if anyone could answer a few questions for me. What typically causes the loud hydraulic whining, is that cavitation? If my hydraulic oil was contaminated could that be causing the issue? Might this be as simple as a drain flush and fill? Should I be able to get some type of rebuild kit for the Char Lynn drive motor if that's the problem? What should I be looking for if I take the drive motor apart? And just to explain a little better what led up to this, the front cylinder was leaking very bad but had a huge dent in it so I couldn't pull it apart and rebuild it. My adult son and his friends were using it and ran it low on hydraulic oil and kept using it. I did manage to get the front cylinder apart afterwards, a car jack and getting the cylinder cherry red with a torch was necessary to finally get the piston past the dent. Managed to hone it out after that and it's good enough for what I use it for (motorcycle track). Unfortunately after that as I said, it will move albeit somewhat noisily but as it gets hotter it's kind of like the left side drive motor locks up and it strains really bad when you try to move. And that's with the ridiculous 70 HP diesel Isuzu engine I put in it.
