i finnally got the 1.6 engine to fire and run. but i beleive i have a problem with the anti desiling valve or something like that. the bobcat will start and idle. but i cant get it to rev up , seems like it runs out of fuel , even at an idle. form the key start mode it seems to fill the carb with enough gas to run untill the gas is gon in the runn mode it seems to just run out of gas.. i had a problem like this with a subaru years back and learned that it has a start mode and after the engine (or iginition key is no longer in the start mode ) it runs off a differnt circut and supplies fuel on a differnt circut.. could this be the same sort of thing with this engine. i have been reading through the manueal that was sent to me pdf file and im not having much luck locating what the problem might be... any suggestions??

Has it been sitting a long time? It needs good flow of clean gas so take the line off by fuel pump to make sure gas is flowing. You will have to have the key on to activate fuel solenoid valve. check the air cleaner , could be a mouse nest in there. You could try a can of sea foam too I have had some luck with it making engines run better. check the timing and mechanical advance and vacuum advance. the vacuum advance on them tend to develope leaking diaphram after 30 years or so.

hey jerry thanks for the reply. i did the gas flush and i rebuilt the distributor and vacum advance when i was trying to make the machine run. when i first bought the machine the owner gave up on it because he couldnt get spark.. i fixed that problem with new coil, points condenser ,fresh wiring and the machine will start right up and idle, but if you give it gas it dies ,, or if you let it idle it will run untill it runs out of gas... i checked the electric fuel pump and it is suppling fuel during cranking and running, but im not sure that the fuel is making it past the anti run on valve or whatever that is in the carb.. i tried disconnecting it and it still has the problem.. i quess i should pull the carb off and get some more education on the workings of the ford Europen industrial motor.. its been a real incite . but i hope to figure it out , so if you have any idea it would sure be apreciated. i feel this thing just runs the gas out of bowl of the carb and then it dies, floats??? needle?? hell i think its just a trial and error type of thing, but i hope to get some more work out of the machine than the work i have been putting into it.. ha ha..

It sounds like a carb kit and a good cleaning will go along way. It could just be a plugged jet and some crud on the float needle.

The wiring diagram I have for the 632 shows a anti-diesel valve and a fuel shut off valve both on the same circuit coming from the #1 terminal on the alternator. The fastest way to check whats going on is to see if the valves are getting 12v + to them when the engine is running.
