Sooo, I have this pesky oil leak and I decided to give the UV dye a shot to see exactly where it was coming from. As you can see from the picture it looks like it is coming out of the bracket that supports the starter. There isn't a bolt in there. I take it this is supposed to be a through hole and simply putting a bolt in there with some pipe dope will take care of the problem? Also does autozone or advance auto stock a spark plug wire that will work? If so what exactly would I ask for? The extra plug wires I have from my mustang won't fit the distributor. P.S. The oil dye and UV flash light is one handy tool to have around. Thanks!

I never would have thought this hole would need to be plugged, but it is possible a previous owner did something to take it too deep. Try plugging it, what's the worst it could do?
Not sure about the plug wires, hopefully someone else can help with that.

I didn't think so either, but it sure looks like it is coming out of that hole. I'll try putting a bolt in it tomorrow and see what happens.

Just a update..... I stuck and small screw driver in that hole and sure enough it goes all the way through. I'm leaning towards it being factory, but I'd be interested in finding out if thats the case.

The original part is a stud Pt# 6516346 that costs about $3.50 from your dealer and has "locktite" on it to keep it in place and prevent leaks. Yes the hole does pass through the block. I have often used bolts with sealant to do the job. There are a couple of styles of starter motor braces out there and with one of the styles it is impossible to use in conjuction with the studs and can only be done with bolts and sealant. I make all of my plug wires using a simple tool I think I got from NAPA and one of their highest quality plug wire sets.

Also……use caution with the length of the bolt if you decide to go that route. Tolerances are tight inside that block.

Little more info; The brace you have pictured works with the studs (bolts will work). Should you want to try to locate studs outside the dealer…..they are 7/8" OAL, 5/16" studs….one end is 24tpi, 3/8" long threads and the other end is 18tpi, 1/4" long threads. Hope this helps.
