Hallo. I got a used 543 a while ago. I just finished repairing the engineand it is running great now. I have startet to look at the wires. For some reason the previous owner made some shitty home repairs, and a lot of the wires are bad, the ignition key Will only shut the engine down some times, and the fuel gauge only works sometimes also. The generator is not charging the battery. I can see that there are 3 wires gong out of the generator, one goes directly to plus on the battery, the last two are not connected to anything. Does anyone know where to connect the last 2 wires? The end of the wires are near the battery, but I read some where that one wire should be conected to the starter, but it is no way near the battery?

I would suspect that the alternator that is in it now is not a factory type. It has been converted to a Delco type single wire. One of the hanging wires should be a sense wire what that does is allows the alternator to start charging at a lower RPM, it will help if you correctly reconnect that wire. Or put the correct alternator in machine.

Do you know were the wire should be connected? I cant see where they could have been attatched, they just stop near the battery

well the sense wire is supposed to come from the farthest point on the electrical system , the power amount is lowest there . If you look at the two wires see if there is one which has just slightly less volts than the battery( you need a digital meter here to read tenths of a volt) , that should be the sense wire, doing this over email is not great but I hope it helps.

Thank you, i will try to see if i can fibd the sense wire. The farthest point, does that mean it should be connected to a wire coming from the dashboard? What about the last wire, should it not be connected to anything?

I really do not know about the exact place it goes but it is beyond the key switch so the switch needs to be in the run position to energize it .
