I have a 743 in the shop right now for axle bearing repair. He tells me that the axle is scared where the seal goes and that i need to weld it up and then turn it back down. I can do this as i own a machine shop anyway, lol. I'm just concerned with what I should weld it with, 7018 rod, 60 series rod or maybe even mig. Or should I just buy a new axle? Thanks for any help folks.

The axle should have a wear ring on it. With it out, have a close look, i welded mine and knocked them off, bought new ones from the dealer and knocked them on when installing new bearings/seals. very simple, no machining required.
If it doesn't have one, install a speedy sleeve, machine it down a little and install the sleeve.
