I would do a search and see if there is a good alt, starter repair place close enought to you, check their reviews and make a judgement call. Unfortuanly these places are getting hard to find. If you can find one take it there and get their opinion if it is rebuildable. I have had to buy a cheap knock off because I needed the machine ,but had the old one rebuilt if possible and put it on the shelf ,in case the cheap one pukes .
I'm going to add this, just so folks can get an idea
I took My old original starter to a local shop to have rebuilt, THINKING< I would then have a good spare
and should;t cost too much to do so, going off the past when I did this,as over my life time I had man rebuild , did do this from the get go, due to when the first one died I was in a rush , second same deal, and third one again, needed machine more than had time to have rebuilt!
well
was I WRONG<
the local shop I used charged me almost as much as a brand new starter
it was cheaper, yes, but only by like $25 bucks, not much of a savings, and took them 3 weeks to get it done!
I had starter same day as dealer stocked them! down time costs $$ some times, so, each person has to decide whats best for them!
so, before having your starter rebuilt ,
, get a price and time frame on job, to see whats better for you!
if you go down this road!
I OK with NOW having a spare,as older machines are getting harder to get parts for, but I didn;t really save any $$ getting rebuilt over just buying a new one again!
on a extra note, I also had my old alt rebuilt to have now as a spare, and that too wasn't much cheaper than buying a new one!(different shop too) seems, since covid, everything is high and staying high!, yrs back rebuilds were tons cheaper!
food for thought!
