I have it off, can get that threaded collar off no problem. What else holds the ram from coming out? It hits a hard stop. (This is my first attempt and putting a seal in a hyd. cylinder.)

Collar, you mean the gland, the part that has the seal for the rod? With that out, it should be free to slide out.......

You need to push the threaded portion of the gland into the barrel about 1/2". You will find a round ring in a groove in the barrel. You need to pry out that ring and then the cylinder can be taken apart. Don't push the gland in any farther than necessary to remove the ring or it will be harder to pull apart because the one oil port will be covered by the gland and not allow air to enter the cylinder as you remove the rod and gland.

I got it today. 3 hour project. there was an inner snap ring.
I had a cylinder like that on a bucket, much head scratching for me too. The gland would rotate but not un-screw. There was a snap ring on the top, i removed it, pushed it down, removed the inner snap ring then used a hydraulic jack to pull the rod/and gland out.
