Greetings, I figured since I was posting information on here it would be high time to introduce myself. I am a renewed user (forgot my old stuff) and have a passion for these skid-steers and their uniqueness in nature. I have been collecting these really cool devices since in the late 80's. I currently have 3 of them.. I cut my teeth on a old 731 to which I still have every part not to mention a load of new parts. My favorite so far is my beloved 843 with a Isusu 4JB1 4 cyl diesel, awesome machine for when it was made. Then I have my latest which is a 853, I have adopted this one as my work horse since it is newer and I am slowly becoming one with it and it's problems. I have a complete series of photos of my 853 currently undergoing a major surgery and heart transplant and hope I can learn how to post them. I appreciate what this forum does for the community and would like to thank the Owners, Moderators and people behind the scenes. You have done well, Thank you! JL Moon Now off to figure out how to post some really good 853 photos

Welcome back to the site :)
I have been looking at the heart upgrade pictures, what was wrong with it to need the attention?
Good 'ol 731, it was my first machine too.

Hello Tazza, Regarding my 853, it was a victim of neglect and was put out to pasture (really was in a pasture) and so I felt pretty bad for it, it took a liking to me and followed me home. The main problem at first was the #4 rod journal as you can see in one of those pictures. It would run, but had the typical rod knock noise that could be heard with a finely tuned ear. :).. So I became very familiar with ol B853 and figured if I was going to spend the money for a new crankshaft, rod work, rings, bearings, valve job & seals.. I might as well go one step further and prep the rest of the machine so it will be trouble free for at least another 4 - 5K hours. This week I am in the process of inspecting and resealing the tandem pump and aux pump. Ordered the seal kit from Sundstrand today! By the way don't know if you realize what pump that is in the pictures.. it is a Sundstrand Series M46.. very common pump. Take care! JLM

I thought i could see a few marks on the big end. Good to see that you didn't cut any corners with getting the engine back into shape.
Always nice to see an old machine coming back to life, no sense letting it rusting in a pasture.

Hello Impact, Sorry about that, I couldn't get the link to post correctly in this thread until I figured out what I was doing. I guess my other post is locked for some reason so I am reposting the link here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kkyex0f5h0hqwet/S_510RRGQP felt compelled to contribute what I have so if someone else has a machine of this vintage they can use them as a guide for reassembly. I need to better understand the principle and limitations for posting pictures directly on this forum, apparently my pictures rapidly exceed the storage space limits imposed on my user account. JLM

Morning! Well, actually I have three of these machines (have no idea why three but I do!) that are in various states of reconditioning. Can you see the photos in good resolution? I can't seem to get my pictures to copy and paste as they should per the instructions on a previous link. Actually this project has been quite a pleasure so far, albeit a dirty job at times (such as scooping +100 lbs of hydraulic oil and mud out from the drive motor / case areas (I call that area the worlds dirtiest place!) but when I am done.. I will be beaming with pride being able to bring a old machine back to life in full form. JLM

Not sure wha tthe highest count of machines i had was... I think it was 5 or 6......
I now have 3, 2 working, one is far from it. I hope to attack the 763 that is in bits soon'ish, but time seems to be a bit of an issue currently.
It is a good feeling when you get something going again. I got a 753 a few years back that someone messed with so they could pick it up at auction cheap. I got it home and found bits of the injector pump missing and the injectors clogged. Then there was a pump issue that i managed to fix after many weeks of hair pulling trying to work out why!!! but it is a good feeling when you work it out and getting it running like new.

Welcome aboard again, haha. These machines are addicting. I hope to get my S250 sunday. My 873 will be for sale soon. I'm also buying a house and trying to get ahold of a sad 610 to leave at my parents for snow removal and landscaping so I dont have to haul the S250 over there all the time. I'm a Bobcat guy at heart, but will buy whatever I think I can sell for more then I paid for it. I'd like a 753 or 773 down the road for a smaller machine. Id also wouldnt mind picking up a New Holland lx series. Attachments are the other addiction, skid roe can tell you about that lol. I buy whatever is cheap but cant justify spending over $2000 for any attachment. Thanks for posting pictures. :)
