Hello all. Newbie to owning a 1998 Bobcat 863 F . My 1st Skidsteer. Several questions to start out. Changing all filters & oils. Half way there . The front case plug is damaged & rounded off. 1.What are my options to remove / fix this? And check level? 2. Parking brake. I hear the "Pop" after a few seconds . But when I go to "set" the brake. Nothing.? The Solenoid looks like it was replaced not long ago. I checked wire connectors and then checked the red to black and black to white one was .001. The other .000. I have not removed the Solenoid yet. What should I be looking at next? Relay or? Thank you. Todd Ca.

Weld a bolt or nut to the plug to remove, or I usually remove the top plate between your feet when sitting in the cab to gain access to chain case. With machine turned on the red wire is the "hold" side and should have constant 12v to black wire, check to both black wire and then to ground on the machine. The white wire is momentary "pull" side of coil and only has for a second or two when you press the operate button sitting in the seat with lap bar down. There is both a fuse and relay for the pull side white wire.

If I pull the front top case plate where should the fluid be (how high?) I did check the Fuse for the brake. (Its Good). How do I check the Relay? I will check the volts on Solenoid tomorrow and report back. I read some people pull the "Plunger" out of the solenoid, If that's a possibility, would it still make that "POP" sound? Thank you. Todd

Oil level should be up to the bottom of the front plug that you said was rounded off. The "pop" sound should be the solenoid plunger moving. If it's out, I doubt you'd hear anything when the solenoid was powered up. The coil has two windings, one to actuate and one to hold. Obviously, the hold coil will have power whenever the machine should be moving (carnival bar down, seat switch actuated). The pull coil will only be powered up for a few seconds after the carnival bar comes down. The relays I think are all interchangeable. If the look the same and have the same pins, I'd just swap them around. Let us know how everything works out for you. :-) ---Bobbie-G

Ok, Drained the Chain Case today. About a gallon of water came out (clear water) then Mocha color oil? Quite a bit. Where can / does water get in the Case? ( Chain case?) Front foot lid, main rear lid, front plug, Axels? What should I be checking? Thank you for any tips. -Todd Also, how many Quarts does it hold? Or how many gallons?

Don't know how that much water would get in there. I'm assuming front case cover below your feet. Gallons? I dunno, several anyhow. Some of us reuse the hydrostatic oil. After draining the chain case, just pump the hydro oil into the chain case via a hose on the aux hyd connector (stop when the juice quits flowing). Then top off the chain case with cheap engine oil. :-). ---Bobbie-G

Okay on switching out hydraulic fluid to chaincase. But how would so much water get into the case? I would say almost 1 gallon of water came out.. then maybe 8 gallons of Murky oil. I need to address this first. I will remove front cover next and then flush out with Diesel fuel. Thank you for Advice!

It gets in from badly sealed inspection covers underyou rfeet and under the pump. It will just be from years of a little here and a little there to add up to that amount.
