97 New Holland LX885 in service mode

I'm thinking about buying a used 97 New Holland LX885. Supposedly it has some sort of electrical issue (that's what the owner tells me) because it has a light on indicating it is in *service mode*? He says it runs flawlessly regardless of it being in the service mode. My question is, what is a good price for this machine? He is asking 10500. I was thinking since he has not had a mechanic look at it I could offer way less?? Looking for any advice here. http://huntsville.craigslist.org/grd/4122216122.html
