I have a new to me 90xt. At low rpms it makes a growling/rattling noise when moving forward or reverse at slower speeds. If I speed up or raise the rpm to 1/2 or higher it seems to go away. Chains, sprockets and bearings are all good. So I'm assuming it's hydraulic. Is it normal? I sold my Case 1840 and it'd whine but not rattle in the same situation.

It's normal for it to whine, more so if you are moving on “sticky” surfaces like butumen or concrete, stuff that is harder to make tyres slip on.

It is normal for hydros to growl more at low speeds and especially on tractive surfaces. One thing you could check is the coupling between the engine and hydros. Check both the U joints and the splines. They wear out over time. Easy to check if you tip the cab forward.
