Hey folks , me again. I have been putting off removing the control valve from my '99 873. Sooo today I took it off and MAN what a hassle ! I'm a damned good motorcycle mechanic and former Air Force jet engine tech and I dont wish this task on any-one .Only 5 hrs later and its off and sitting on the table. The Dealer said all I had to do was remove a couple of lines and wires an viola DONE . Yeh Right ! More like Eight lines both flexible and solid ,3 wire connectors , 4 bolts , TWO linkages ( I'd like to meet the joker who put the linch pin in so as to have to remove a line to get to it ) and THEN then dancing the 40 plus pound chunk of metal out all the while fighting the steel lines out of the way ! I asked you all last month what the procedure is and got some real SIMPLE answers . Well it weren't a simple job. Sooo now I gotta decide if I should JUST fix the leak where the upper scroll shaft is or do the full Monty on this thing . Question - anyone actually replaced the above seal ? I'd be real grateful for any help on doing the task Also any advice on putting the unit back in .

Who ever told you that pulling the valve is an easy job was likely yanking your chain!! Sure, you don't really need any special tools, but contortionist training would be an asset. My machine is likely one of the easier BC's to work on (no BICS), but it is still painful to pull the control.

Thanks for reply. I'm still seeking some advice on this project. ANYONE rebuilt one of these valves ?

Are you just looking to replace the spool seals? They are pretty straight forward. There are lots of posts on them. I have a Bobcat publication that runs you through the basic steps. Grab my e-mail address from my profile and I will send it to you if you like.

Why did you pull the valve out, seals can be done in the machine. Once you have done one it is pretty straight forward all thou can still take up to six hours on some machines

Well guys - I took out the valve 'cause the Dealer said a whole bunch of springs and balls come flying out and doubted I could catch . THEN I got a hold of 'Joe' at the local Dealer and he sez i coulda just replaced the end seals by just reaching up from the bottom and pulling the cap back !after removing the 2 allen bolts . Well i'm off to the bench tonight to pull it apart Will I have to do any priming or bleeding on the bench or once installed back in the machine ? Thank again I'll keep ya posted on the up coming FUN to put it all back together ! Reddirt
