my 1996 873 3000hrs all of a sudden started smoking blue. Oil was full. started up blue when cold, dissappeared when hot. next day had blue at start and stayed when warm, oil appeared down a little. parked it and used my 250JD, afraid to wreck something worse. What is next step to diagnose? or to eliminate turbo, valve, oil rings? Thanks! Rick.

I'd suspect the turbo first. Remove the inlet manifold hose, check for oil. Check the turbo to see if the compressor has any play in the shaft.

The Deutz engine has a PCV module that if clogged or malfuntioning will cause blue smoke.
