873 Block Heater ??

simple question ??
my 873 came with a plug in block heater to heat the oil , how long or is there a time limit that i should leave it plugged in ?? does the heater get too hot and scortch the oil ??
i did a google search and didnt find anything on the heater to answer my question .

The blocker heater only needs to be on for about fours to do as much as it is going to to. It shouldn't burn the oil, but leaving to plugged in will burn the heater rather quickly.
 
I had a 873 for a few years. I never once plugged that machine in. It was a 95 model I think and you pressed the glow plug button for so many seconds depending on the outdoor temp. I always let my machines warm up before I run them when it's cold. Something you should do is make sure the oil you are using isn't too thick for the outdoor temps you experience.
