More fuel issues….just recently got a slug of water and rust pumped into my fuel tank. Long story short, because I couldn’t get a hose into the tank to suck out the fuel I removed the filler hose, threw away the screen that could only stop mice, sucked out the tank. Then pulled the drain plug, what a stupid idea! The engineer that designed that was not in the line that said “get your brains here”! Rinsed the tank with hot water & then blew compressed air into different areas of the tank to get out as much moisture as possible. Then I removed the engine supply fuel hose & threw away the screen and check valve, must have been the same engineer that designed the drain plug! In it’s place I put a 1/4” nylon truck air line, open ended. Had to trim it down a couple times to get the 90 degree fitting to seat in the grommet. New fuel line to engine compartment to electric fuel pump that I had installed years ago to prime before starting. Got rid of that hard primer bulb….man that engineer had his hands all over that fuel system!
. From elec. primer pump to 5/16” check valve to engine fuel pump to fuel filter. Note that I have not yet installed an inline filter between electric pump and check valve.
Now for my problem…. when I start the machine and let it idle for a bit it starts slowing down and acting like it’s starving for fuel. I believe it is because when I hit my primer button, inside the cab, it picks right up and runs fine until starving shortly after. I thought that maybe fuel filter was plugged so tried a new one and same issues. Next plan is to install inline fuel filter between primer pump and check valve. I’ve also cleaned the screen on the engine fuel pump.
Any other thoughts or ideas? Thank you in advance.
