I have an 863 here on site in alaska that starts out of neutral. The guys here have a "technique" for starting which requires the operator to hold the sticks with their legs in a neutral-ish position so that the machine doesn't run away when it starts. Hopefully a seasoned bobcat guy knows exactly what this is. I'm hoping its an adjustment in a linkage. Any ideas?

There is a neutral adjustment; I don't think that there is a 863 book in the manual thread, but there is one for an 853 and 873, the procedure should be similar on that series. The book should have the step by step guides to getting it back to center.
Also make sure that the sticks are free to move, ie. no buildup of old grease that tends to keep the springs from centering when released.
