Hello, I have a ‘96 863 bobcat (not sure of the exact hours because it is displaying a code where the hour meter is). I was running it the other day and I noticed that the engine coolant temperature bars were low (just had 1 bar up on display to be exact), but the machine was running fine so I didn’t think much of it. It ran like that (only 1 engine coolant temp bar) for approx. 3hrs before the warning alarm sounded and it threw an EC-4 code. (The Boss Service Codes calls the EC-4 code out to be an engine coolant wiring shorted code). The machine was running fine even after it threw the code; however, I decided to park it so as to not risk overheating. I’m kinda stumped at where to start searching for my problem. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks

I'd start by disconnecting the plug to the sensor, see if the code changes. If it does, it may be that the sensor has an internal short.

Thanks for the reply! I unplugged the oil temperature sensor and when unplugged the code changes to EC-3 (wiring disconnected) when I plug it back in the EC-4 code reappears.

To me, that means there is an internal short in the sensor and needs replacing. As it changes when disconnected means the wiring is not shorting out in the harness.

I installed the new sensor yesterday and the code disappeared and the machine is running perfectly! Thanks for all the great information!
