I am working on a 853H that the lift arms are acting funny and sometimes come down when you center the pedal, or drift down. Looks like the back cap on the lift spool on the hydraulic control valve is missing. When I got a mirror in there the bottom of the cap is still bolted on. In the manual it shows the cap held on by 2 screws, another cap that is suppose to be held on with a clip and a washer. The clip, washer, and I'm guessing the inner cap are gone. I don't even see where the washer and clip would have gone. I see a spring and a Maybe the sleeve Looks like a bunch of work to get the valve out, but I see no way of working on it in the bobcat. My question is what would break the the cap, what would cause the travel of the spool to change smashing into the cap? Anyone ever seen and repair something like this?

Without the cap, it will not centre correctly, It needs the cap to hold the centering part of the spring in place and hold the seal in.
The only thing i can think of is the previous owner never put it back on or vibration made it fall off? I'd see if you can get the parts from the dealer to replace the cap, the detent parts and the clip. You will need a parts diagram to see what is needed though. If you don't need the detent, at least get the cap and sleeve part to keep dire out of the spring and seal parts.

Thanks, Cap Is actually broken. Own this machine since new. Parts that I see don't match the parts. I don't see where the clip or inner cap would go. Can something go wrong with the shaft that would change the lenght of travel?

I'll try to get a picture of the damage part and of the parts diagram

I wonder why it broke, fatigue maybe? not that it seems much load.
It will have to be floating around there somewhere, there are a lot of places it could fall and hide, like under the drive pump/motor

We'll find out once we get the stupid valve out, sure are a lot of lines keeping it in.

Removing the valve is not fun, it's not that there are so many lines, it's the fact you can't get a spanner in there to swing off it.
