I think "7LBSSMALLIE" has a good point. It might be worth pulling the injectors out as well. Just ask yourself this question, "how much longer do I want to deal with this machine that does not run?" or "How much money am I not making while this machine will not start?" Have a knowledgeable (not cheap) diesel injection mechanic inspect / repair / rebuild your fuel system. If it runs good on ether, then you should feel as if you have done everything that you could have done. Think of the feeling of it running great for a long time to come........
awesome advice. hit the wall back up and punt. hopefully up to this point . jimmy joe lawn mower repair shop has not causded any damage ( with ether, propane, or wd 40). as in bent rods broken rings or scored walls. and by the way the first thing I would do is run a compression check. its all about FACTS. rebuilt eng ? jimmy joe blow? a compression check will tell tell ifts viable or not to continue on the money pit.(NOW FROM A GUY WHOS GOT dam close to twenty five years in heavy equipment. low compression is not the complete death of an eng. may have to glow a little longer. but shell start and run. in commeracial application it needs to be dead nuts. back forty? not so much. if she will start and run. move manure. etc just hope that knockining rod don't come thru the seat v1702 will run on 95lbs per cyl why I don't know shouldn't but it will. that's a fact..

Around where I live (5 years ago), salvage / junk yards will rebuild transmissions, then sell them as rebuilt. They usually last 10 months or so. Such a waste of $1400 for one of my customers. She should have spent the $2200, that I quoted her for a jasper rebuild. So, she lost all $1400 on that dealing, instead of spending more on a great / warrantied thing. To make it even funnier, she called me asking what my labor warranty covered. I very politely asked her "did it (the transmission) fall out of the truck?" She said no & I very politely replied that was enough proof for me that I did a good job. I see stupid stuff like that sometimes. My neighbor did about the same thing. He was rebuilding his transmission once every 15 months. He did that 4 or 5 times, to the tune of $1350 every time. They ran a scam on his @$$!! Before he decided his own demise, I quoted him $2250 the very first time. He thought I was trying to get him. So he wasted around $7,000 on transmissions. What a shame = he wasn't the kind of guy with too much money, but rather a Mr. Cheapo with not enough remaining brain cells. Again, it is such a shame. I try to help everyone I meet, but they end up going out of their way to destroy the best approach possible.
