Hey guys how’s it going? Hope you can help me out.
I’m going to pick up an 853 this weekend with a popped engine, how do I release the hydraulic drive motors on it to roll it around??

Thanks

you should be able to have someone sit inside machine and use controls to allow it to be towed /pulled or other wise moved,as longs your not having to move it far

Just going on and off the trailer

If moving the levers doesn’t work you can disconnect the drive motor hose. Just don’t get any dirt in the system.

Also, if you are goin to winch the machine onto the trailer it won’t hurt it if you drag it up slowly. These machines are meant to skid. If on concrete a little liquid soap under the tires will help it along.

Long-shot trick that also works is to get a large flat Cadillac hood and get it under the machine and use it like a sled.

In my experience moving the controls in whatever direction you want the machine to move won't do anything at all for you in these machines. The levers angle the swashplates in the pump thereby changing the displacement in the pump and in turn the output of the pump. If it was a hydraulic spool valve then it would work but in this case it won't. brdgbldr is correct in that removing the hoses on the drive motors is the way to get it to freewheel. Is the machine equipped with a BICS system? You can tell if it has a computer with 5 lights on it on the right side of the back wall beside the operator's seat if you're sitting in the machine. If it does have a BICS system you'll have to take the parking brake assembly out of the machine, it's located under the front chain case cover. You just undo the cover and the whole assembly should lift out, at least that's how it is on the 873. If you just have a big foot pedal with a mechanical link

Next time you have to move it when it’s dead, most 853 models have 2 tow valves for this purpose. See pics from the manual (my red highlighting) and my 853. I painted my tow valves red to find them easily when needed.
