Great forum ! Lots of useful info here. We have a mid 90's 853 with the Isuzu 4JB1 PK-03 engine. This cat has been bullet proof. However recently coolant has been disappearing, and I suspect it is getting into the crankcase as the oil level increases on the dipstick. The diesel still runs great with no smoke. The oil filler plug has some condensation on it, with some of the dreaded white paste. Has any members have some experience with this. I don't suspect head gasket, as it still pulls strong. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the Isuzu diesels have liners, to the best of my knowledge.
Its a possible head gasket leak too, allowing the coolant into the oil galleries. Have you tried putting a few pills in the coolant to try and stop the leak? You can get them from most auto shops, they have fine fibres in them that float around and plug up small cracks. It may fix your issue, it may not.

If it has liners, have you ever treated the coolant could have cavitation where it ate holes in your liners. Had that happen before. Might even be a o-ring on a liner that failed. Or another fun thing, could be a leaking oil cooler, that is if it has one.

Thanks Taz, will try the pill pluggers. Gotta load some trucks with piles of snow Saturday. We have Bumper to Bumper or Part Source here which hopefully have the coolant pills. Will post later on the success or fail of this simple fix.

As mentioned, will try to treat coolant first. Do you or anyone else know if you can remove head while motor remains in unit. Looks tight. We have a good fab. shop here that can build the motor lifting bracket, to remove motor, as described in the service manual. I hope it doesn't get to that, although 3100 hrs on meter. This cat has no oil cooler, which rules that out. Thanks for sharing your previous experience on this matter. This is what cements the value of this forum. No tree killing here, just snow drift annihilation.
