Had a Mallory race pump on because it was handy & looked too cool, needed a rebuild after a few months. Grab an el-cheapo little pump at the local auto parts store. I have one mounted at mid tank, pulls up a ways, no problems. The normal cheapies work differently, not rotory like race pumps to lose suction. Solenoid, clacking valve or something.
