I have play on the hubs.... Bearings...???? Can those also be replaced from outside?First check that the chaincase isn't overfull from a motor seal leaking into the case. Another member mentions that if the chaincase vent is clogged and a motor seal overfills the case it will leak out the axle seals. The fluid should be level with the fill plug on the front of the case with the machine on a level surface.
If the oil level is good or low then jack and block the loader up and remove the tires/wheels. Check each axle hub for in/out, up/down movement to verify the bearings are good. If the bearings are good then replacing the seals is fairly easy.
Loosen the large bolt you mentioned that hold the hub on. Use a large hub puller to loosen the hub on the axle taper. If you don't have a puller then you can use 2 bottle jacks like in this post. http://www.skidsteerforum.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=54&frmView=ShowPost&PostID=41984
Then remove the old seal and knock in a new one. Put the hub back on and tighten the bolt to 600 ft lbs or as tight as you can get it with a breaker bar and cheater.
No, you'll need to remove the axles. To do that you'll need to remove the chaincase cover/covers to gain access to the nuts that hold the sprockets on the axles. Front axles are not too bad but the rears can be a real pain.I have play on the hubs.... Bearings...???? Can those also be replaced from outside?
So , obviously pull the hubs first to look at bearings and go from there..??No, you'll need to remove the axles. To do that you'll need to remove the chaincase cover/covers to gain access to the nuts that hold the sprockets on the axles. Front axles are not too bad but the rears can be a real pain.
yes pull the hubs first, but you will not be able to see anything. if you can feel play the cups and cones need to be inspected and or replaced. you will also need to order the special washers that allow you to take up the end play.So , obviously pull the hubs first to look at bearings and go from there..??
If there is on;y a little end to end play, you can install or machine the washers on the end of the axles to take it up. If its a fair bit, you will need to pull the axles as mentioned and replace the bearings.yes pull the hubs first, but you will not be able to see anything. if you can feel play the cups and cones need to be inspected and or replaced. you will also need to order the special washers that allow you to take up the end play.
