I have a seal leaking on the lift arm and I was wondering if this is a d.i.y. project. I have never taken one off or repaired one. I have done the fork tubes on motorcycles before. Is there a web site with the information to do this kind of job? Thanks for your help.

I was just on youtube and there are a couple of videos about that. I have done a bunch fo them. be safe and block up bucket so it wont fall. A clean bench, a good size vice, and maybe some special tool like a spanner wrench? Also make sure the ram isnt scored up. If there are burs buff them out so they dont take out the new seals. its not hard just take it apart replace all that comes in the kit and back together. the bobcat website has parts break downs so you can see whats inside of what you are working on.

Thanks for the info. Hope to get time to get it done soon. Just started doing it so its not bad... yet.

The seal on the piston can only go on both ways. Be sure to take off each o ring and spacer in order and keep them in order. When installing your new seals a light coat of hyd oil helps and buy a knitting needle to install them. I have a small assortment of them all ground down to help me install without tearing any seals.

Dont use a pick on the new seals.

All good advise.
To install the pressure seals, i use a pair if cir-clip pliers, the ones with a rounded nose as to not damage the seal. I use that to twist the seal into a W shape and push it into the gland nut where you took it out of. It may look nasty to the seal, but they are made to handle it.
A tip to get the nut to crack on the piston is to put it back into the machine and use a pin to hold it in place, then haul on it with a bar to remove the nut. This saves you needing a helper and a long bar to hold the rod while you crack and re-install the nut.
Clean the threads of the rod and use a little loctite on it too. This will ensure it doesn't loosen on you at a later day.

Dont buy your kits from bobcat. Martin Fluid Power. Google them. Your seal kits should be 8 to 12 dollars each. They also have the interchange on the sight. You can match your original part numbers under seal repair kits on the left side of the page.
