I have reason to believe that my fuel pick up may have broken off. Are the grommets that the fuel lines go through able to be removed and replaced without destroying them? I can blow through either line with 3/4 tank of diesel and get nothing but air on either end. One fuel line is almost under the hydraulic pump and the other is in a place where I think I could remove it and make it the pick up if the grommet comes out without drama.
 
The grommett can usually be re-used, but are cheap enough at the dealer. Follow the line back from the primer bulb to find which one had the pick up on it. Both lines can be removed if you can twist around enough to reach.

If the broken one is under the pump and you can access the other, there is no reason you can't swap lines if you install a new pickup in the one you can access. As mtfixitpaul stated, the groments can be re-used. You don't NEED to have fuel being picked up from any specific hole in the tank, they are only a few inches apart anyway.

SUCCESS. Removed the grommet from the accessible hole with steel elbow fitting. Measured to 1/2" above tank bottom and used 3/8" copper tube to make that my new pickup. Flared end of copper tube and soldered it onto elbow. Ran new rubber fuel line to sqeeze bulb and primed her up. It appears copper has been used in marine diesel applications for years so I anticipate no problems there. It's nice to have a cheap fix once in a while especially when the first step in the service manual for servicing the fuel tank was: Remove engine and hydraulic pump. Thanks for the input guys.
