773 fuel issues

I recently bought a bobcat 773 skidsteer that has been sitting for several years. I'm trying to start it out of a jug until I can get it to my shop & flush the tank. I've replaced fuel filter & went through the bleeding process to get air out of lines. Got air out of filter, & squeeze primer bulb while opening the second bleeder above, but after 4-5 more pumps I got fuel coming out of what I assume is the return line at end of fuel rail & still won't start or hit. Tried cracking an injector lines to see if fuel comes out there & it doesn't. The knob on the upper bleeder is missing, but i can turn the stem sticking out with pliers, dont know if that has anything to do with problem or not. This is my first time working on a diesel engine, so I'm somewhat lost. Any help w is greatly appreciated. Thanks
