I noticed today that my loader was leaking fluid out of the bottom when I pulled it up on the trailer... lifted the cab and noticed a pool of fluid on the right side (if you were sitting in it) of the bottom pan, in the middle, slightly forward of the axle tube. All of the hoses from the pump and fluid tank are dry..... any ideas???? I have also noticed some fluid on the outside of the rear wheels... not bad though. Any direction would be appreciated.... thanks!

If that fails, give it a good clean out, it will be far easier to trace then.
.......if the leak isn't jumping out at you and you have oil leaking from the axle seal ( around the wheel ) then I would guess your drive motor seals are leaking oil into the chain case and overfilling the case and leaking either out the vent on top the case or from one or all of the three covers of the chain case , pull the plug on front of the machine and see if it is over full ..............

Not sure where the spool valves are or how to identify them. any advice would be helpful. Will look at the chain case... I can tell you this, the fluid leaking is very clean and fresh.... how bad are the seals to replace on the drive motors? Where exactly is the fill hole??? I could not find it the last time I looked...lol! I replaced the hub seals about a year ago and it's been fine until now. Thanks to everyone for your help... without this site this project never even would have been a running machine, Steve

follow the linkage from the pedals and you will end up at the spool valve

........... the chain case fill hole is located on the front of the machine about 12 inches off the ground , right in the middle , put the boom up in the air ( put the boom support in place ) you should see a 1/2 “ square drive plug , remove the plug and the oil level should be right at the bottom of the hole , the case will hold about 32 quarts on a 63 series and 28 on a 53 series , the case can hold about an extra 10 gallons of oil over full before it will start to leak out the vent plug or case covers ( unless you have bad axle seals ) , a drive motor seal leak can also cause axle seal leaks as if the vent gets clogged up the pressure ( once the case is full ) will push the oil pass the seals ................. have you been adding more oil then you see leaking out , then the motor seals could be your problem ------------------ controll valve spools seals are pretty common to go out on that machine and another common leak is the gear pump will blow the oring on the fitting coming out the pressure side and or crack the housing thru the threads of the pump ........................ cleaning the machine with a pressure washer and some degreaser will help you find the leak

another thought on this is if it has newer oil in it has dye. ulttaviolet and yellow glasses will make it pop.
I have the same problem with my 963. It has a Deutz diesel engine that is oil cooled (no antifreeze) and uses 5-30 motor oil to run the hydraulics. I found a leak in the hydraulic cooler that sits above the engine oil cooler. Replaced it and thought I had it licked but there is another one somewhere and it leaks down to the right side only as described in the beginning of this thread. The leak must be on the suction side of the pump somewhere as the rate is the same regardless of if it is running or not. I have checked the storage tank and that remains dry along with the lines to and from it. I have the same problem in that I have not been able trace where it is coming from.

It is definetly from the hydraulics as I have to constantly refill the reservoir.

as Tazza said a good cleaning is the first step. unless its spraying you in the face. lol. I have cleaned for up to six hrs just so I could start to work on a machine. ( and customers wonder why it sometimes cost so much for repairs)

LMAO!

My first mistake was hitting a 9 when I meant an 8. I have an 863. My second mistake was assuming that this was a friendly forum where others don't talk down to you like you're some kind of idiot. The first thing I did when I got the machine was take the pressure washer to it and clean everything in and out.

Did I miss something , was some post erased , read all the post again and didn't see anyone talking down to you ..................... I have no clue what LMAO stands for -------------------- hope it wasn't me , but don't worry I will be sure to try to remember FLIP and never respond to any of your post again

I agree with you Fishfiles. I re-read all the posts and don't understand Flips comment. Let's see, the orig poster is asking a question on finding a leak in a 763, and is given some ideas to check out by qualified responders. Flip joins in with a similar problem on a completely different machine, wants an answer and then scorns a post about him that doesn't exist? WHAT? Flip, I think you owe these posters an apology if you expect any help in the future. By the way Flip, you never mentioned in your post that you cleaned your machine before looking for your leaks..... we can't assume or read minds. Good luck to all.
